Message from the Minister

Welcome to Wesley Mimico United Church.

“To be a joyous people of the Spirit, delightfully reflecting God’s love in all we do and are” – that is part of the mission statement of this congregation.

Though not a large congregation, all ages are represented in weekly worship and in the various activities that make the mission concrete. On Sundays, child care is available and a one-classroom Church School helps children learn the stories of faith, while adults continue in the worship service. Music, prayer, scripture readings, and reflections that connect to real life are part of the nourishing menu. Aha! moments and pauses of quiet illumination open us to the Spirit – the transcendent, which is part of every day life. After worship, refreshments and conversation help worshippers connect with each other and grow a sense of community.

During the week, the church office is open from 9:30 to 12:30  Tuesday to Thursday serving as a centre for connecting and administration.

Task groups, committees, and other gatherings come together at various times to plan and take action. Every Thursday, except the last Thursday of the month, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Food Bank serves the local community. On Fridays at 6 p.m. the Community Supper is served to anyone who comes to be nourished and to connect with others. The meal is free, though donations are welcome.

Wesley’s participants contribute time, energy, and money to sustain the various ministries. Special gifts of food and money support the food outreach programs.

Wesley is called to be present as “heart” in the Etobicoke-Lakeshore community. You are invited to be part of the “joyous people” seeking to serve God and love neighbours – near and far.

Sincerely,
Harry Oussoren, Interim Ordained Minister

P.S. WMUC is happily anticipating the arrival of a new permanent minister as of September 1, 2012.  More information about the new ordained minister will be published soon.
